Minutes Of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Schleswig Community School District September 9, 2024 Call to Order: President Gurney called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members Present: Wade Gurney, Rachel Jacobsen, Jason Schneider Absent: Cindy March, Danette Miller Administration: Kim Buryanek, Superintendent; Andrea Gurney, Principal; Mallory Meyer, Business Manager/Board Secretary Others Present: Sylvia Friedrichsen Correspondence: None Consent Items - A motion was made by Rachel Jacobsen, second by Jason Schneider, to approve the consent items (agenda, minutes, bills, and financial reports). Motion carried 3-0. Personnel Report Resignations – None Appointments – None SEA Report – Sylvia Friedrichsen reported the SEA has collected membership dues for the year. They plan to hold monthly meetings and will be helping at Calf Show Days. Superintendent Report Accept Audit Report from Nolte, Cornman & Johnson P.C. for fiscal year 2023 – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the fiscal year 2023 audit report as presented by Paul Beetner, Accountant with Nolte, Cornman, & Johnson P.C. Motion carried 3-0. Discuss School Breakfast and Lunch Program – The Board discussed possible changes to the nutrition program regarding pricing for breakfast and how to proceed with large negative account balances. Second Reading of 501.3 Compulsory Attendance, 501.9 Student Absences-Excused, 501.10 Student Absences-Unexcused (RESCIND), 505.2 Student Promotion-Retention-Acceleration Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 3-0. First Reading of 501.9R1 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy Regulation Schleswig CSD Board Policies – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the policies as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Out-of-State Trip for 7th & 8th Grades to Celebrate Creativity, Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, NE on October 31, 2024 – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the trip as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Engagement of Nolte, Cornman and Johnson P.C. to Conduct Financial Audit for fiscal year 2024 in the Amount of $12,000 – Rachel Jacobsen moved, seconded by Jason Schneider to approve the engagement agreement as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Preschool Contract with Immanuel Lutheran for the 2024-2025 School Year – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the contract as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Approve Request to School Budget Review Committee for Allowable Growth and Supplemental Aid for Negative Special Education Balance of $206,318.88 – Jason Schneider moved, seconded by Rachel Jacobsen to approve the request as presented. Motion carried 3-0. Administrator Update- Mrs. Gurney shared: Staff will ride in two suburbans for the Calf Show Days parade. Bluespace will be installing new graphics on Thursday. All staff keycards will be deactivated temporarily on Friday through Monday for Calf Show Days. On Friday, September 13, 4th grade students will go to Ida Grove for Ag Day. There will be a 2:00 pm dismissal on Friday, September 13. There are six 7th graders and one 8th grader participating in football. There are two 7th graders participating in volleyball. The Back-to-School Bash was a success with an estimated 140 children attending.
